The day I  bought my automatic bread maker was the day i stopped buying commercial breads. I am a carb addict and bread falls in the category of carb eating and I was on  mt way to eating six slices of bread per day. I knew something had to stop, I had starting gaining weight around the stomach and I was not happy about that.

Home made bread

I started doing a bit of search on the different types of breads and found their are fattening breads, low fat breads high fat and high fiber and te list is as long as my arm. However, the most important thing i discovered was the healthier the bread the more expensive it got.

I knew I wanted to continue to eat bread and the onlyway i could do that was switching to a healthier eating style. My main issue was the price of good healthy bread was, and a just how expensive it would be over the long run. Then the thought of making the kind of breads I need occurred to me. I attempted several times to start the process but, it just seem over whelming.

The idea of a bread machine came to when I went to a friends house and had te most delicious bread. i was informed that it was home made in a bread maker. I wanted to run out then and there to purchase on myself.

That night my research started on the kinds of breakers on the market and their price point.

The prices range from $50-$207 with an enormous variety to chose from.

How I got my first bread maker

Being an avid reader I went on my weekly trek to get my weekly fill of reads. While at the thrift store I venture over the electronic department, not looking for anything in particular. while glancing at the items I came across an automatic bread maker made by Breadman. I checked it eagerly out and discovered it was brand new and the price was only $8. It seemed all the blessings where with me that day. Obviously I bought it, manual and all.

My second bread maker

My friend and I decided to go to the unclaimed baggage store where we hoped to find some good bargains. Once there, we browsed through the different departments before making a decision and some how we ended up in the home appliance area. Low and behold what was there waiting for me, a brand new Panasonic bread maker. I had a minor dent on the corner but, other than that is was a gem. The listed price was $45, that was a good price knowing the original for that model. However, I wanted to push my luck a bit, I call the sales clerk and showed her the dent ask nicely asked for a discount. She went away and came back smiling and had the bread maker marked down to $30. Yes, I paid for it and placed it in the car just in case someone decided they wanted a marked down bread maker.

I, too, stayed away from bread making because of the difficulty in making the bread, but you make it seem so easy with the machine. Maybe I'll try looking in a 2nd hand shop for one and use you recipe for the Foccacia bread. Thanks for sharing. Good article.

rakeitha, thanks for commenting. I find it a breeze to make bread with the machine, it eliminates the kneading and rising that you have to do, the machine does all that.

Look out for my bread making hub coming soon.
